Fair Use

Last updated: October 2026

Why these rules exist

Every page that is turned into speech costs money and computer time. Many readers share the same machines. These rules keep ListenToMe free, quick and fair for everyone. They matter most to blind and low-vision readers, who use it every day.

How much you can send

  • One book can be up to 500 pages.
  • One file can be up to 200 megabytes.
  • One account can make up to 500 pages a day. If a book would take you over 500 pages for the day, it is not made and it cannot be retried. Add it again after the count restarts.
  • The daily count starts again at midnight, Coordinated Universal Time. In India, that is 5:30 in the morning.
  • Some files, such as Word and PowerPoint files and some photo formats, count as at least 5 pages. They need extra work before they can be read.
  • You can have up to 3 books in line at a time. This includes books that are being made. If you add a fourth, it is not started. When one finishes, tap Retry on it.
  • Up to 2 of your books are made at the same time. Your other books wait their turn.
  • You can ask up to 100 questions a day about your books with Ask AI.

Taking turns

Books from all readers share the same machines. The line tries to take turns between readers, and shorter books usually go first. This way, one person's long list does not hold up everyone else. At busy times, your book may take longer to be ready.

If you have a big library

Big personal libraries are welcome. Please send them a few books at a time. Extra books may need a Retry.

Do you need more for a while? For example, to move a whole library, or for a school or a group? Message me on WhatsApp and tell me what you need. I will do what I can.

What is not allowed

Please do not:

  • Use a script or bot that talks to ListenToMe's servers directly instead of the app or the website. Tools that you run on your own phone and that use the app are fine.
  • Use more than one account to get around a limit or a pause.
  • Delete your account and make a new one to get around a limit or a pause.
  • Flood the line. For example, by sending the same file again and again, retrying in a loop, or starting many uploads that you never finish.
  • Sell, rent or resell the service, or the audiobooks it makes.
  • Offer the service to other people as a business without asking me first.
  • Upload files that you do not have the right to use, or files that break the law. Making an audiobook of a book you own, for your own listening, is what ListenToMe is for, where the law allows it.
  • Try to break, overload or get around the service's limits or security in any other way.

How I notice problems

Unusual use, such as hundreds of uploads in a few minutes, can show up in the overall usage numbers. If it does, I may look into it.

What happens if the rules are broken

Depending on the problem, I may act in steps:

  1. I send you a message about the problem.
  2. I may slow your account down. Your books may wait longer, or fewer of them can be in line.
  3. I may pause your account. New books are not accepted for a while.
  4. I may remove your access to the service.

For serious problems, such as automated attacks or many accounts, I may skip steps.

Sending your own library is not abuse. It will never count against you. If you send many books at once, some may need a Retry.

Asking for a higher limit, or appealing

If you need a higher limit, or you think I made a mistake, message me on WhatsApp: open a WhatsApp chat with me.

Please tell me the email address you sign in with, and what happened. I read and answer these messages myself. If I got something wrong, I will put it right.

Changes to these rules

The limits may change as the service grows. When they do, I will update this page and the date at the top.
